Last week, the World Ceramic Tile Manufacturers Forum (WCTF) and the ISO Technical Committee 189 Meeting took place in Ílhavo, Portugal.
The Forum took place from November 17 to 20 and included representatives from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, the United States, Spain, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Turkey and Ukraine.
Participants exchanged information and debated topics relevant to both the industry and consumers of ceramic tiles, such as trends in global production, free trade agreements, standardization of ceramic tiles and installation products, environmental sustainability programs, the carbon market, the circular economy, the industrialization of construction, occupational health and safety and, finally, national activities to promote the product.
Soon after the forum ended, the ISO Technical Committee 189 meeting began, which develops ISO technical standards for ceramic products, installation products (mortar and grouts) and installation methods. There were three days of discussions, from November 21 to 23, and the Brazilian delegation was made up of: Alaís Coluchi, International Relations Consultant at ANFACER; Ana Paula Margarido, Superintendent at the Ceramic Center of Brazil (CCB); Marcos Murilo Christofoletti, Assistant at the Ceramic Center of Brazil (CCB); Angela Waterkemper, Quality Assurance Manager at Mohawk Brazil; and Luiz Goeldner, Quality Assurance Coordinator at Incepa.
Among the various topics discussed, the professionals debated standards for - ceramic floors applied with a substrate (fiber, tile, cork, etc.); thin ceramic tiles; international guidelines for installing the product; sustainability and the rules for calculating the carbon incorporated into the product.
The event is a unique opportunity to debate and make fundamental decisions for the development of the global ceramic tile sector.
