The Brazilian ceramics sector is committed to continually seeking more sustainable solutions that respect the environment - so much so that it is recognized as the manufacturer of one of the greenest ceramics in the world.
Among the initiatives to decarbonize the sector, we highlight the biomethane project, a gas derived from sugarcane waste, which aims to gradually replace natural gas as an energy source.
In March 2023, the ceramics and sugar-energy sectors signed an agreement to gradually replace natural gas with biomethane as a fuel for factory kilns.
The pilot project will include ten consumer plants in the Santa Gertrudes manufacturing hub. With the energy transition, the goal is to supply 50% of the sector's demand for natural gas by 2030.
