5 Cersaie 2024 trends to keep an eye on

Cersaie is an international trade fair for architectural and construction ceramics, also focusing on finishes, flooring, tiles, natural stone and bathroom items.

Since its foundation, the event has been an important stage for manufacturers and designers to present their collections, innovative products and new technologies, which attract the attention of a global audience. At the BolognaFiere exhibition center in Bologna, the vast, modern space welcomes exhibitors and visitors from all over the world.

The Cersaie 2024 edition brought a series of novelties and trends that promise to transform the architecture and design market in the coming years. Check out the main highlights!

1. Neutral and natural color palette

Inspired by natural raw materials, the dominant color palette at Cersaie 2024 is softer, with some stronger tones such as earthy greens and reds standing out.

This is a trend that was already seen in 2023, but which is now consolidated and gaining even more space in architecture and decoration. Check out some of the shades that stood out:

  • Pure white: this is a must-have at Cersaie 2024. The tone is seen on everything from rustic surfaces to metal reproductions.
  • Buttery: these are soft tones with a yellowish background, such as beige and the light brown of wood, for example.
  • Greens: perfect for adding a touch of color to spaces, these shades range from pure to bluish.
  • Marsala: has a strong connection with nature through the fermentation process, as with wine.‍
  • Employed colors: darker tones such as browns (black with red), graffiti blacks, among others.

2. Natural materials for cozy spaces

Even in the field of architecture, we can highlight some materials that bring the natural and neutral tones that are trending. At Cersaie 2024, we saw travertine and onyx, which has made a comeback and now comes in other colors, warming up the color palette and making people feel more at home.

In this sense, technology is coming into play to bring more sustainable options to these natural materials. Portobello, for example, recently launched the Aeterna collection, which reproduces travertine very faithfully.

This is a material that is no longer available in nature. However, other surfaces can also be reproduced in porcelain tiles to combine beauty and sustainability. This is the case with porcelain tiles that interpret wood or surfaces that reproduce marble.

In this way, it is possible to minimize environmental impact by using raw materials that have less impact on nature, as well as more efficient production techniques.

3. Diversity of ceramic shapes

The Lastras are still going strong in the field of architecture and decoration. However, at Cersaie 2024, the Portobello team noted the presence not only of large formats, but also of a greater diversity of sizes, including mosaics.

Lastras producers are now also investing in small formats that allow even greater customization of surfaces. This is the case with Portobello, which has a wide variety of tiles in its portfolio.

This trend for small formats also brings together the points mentioned above, such as natural tones and textures.

What's more, it allows for a wide variety of applications, from minimalist to maximalist environments. After all, you can invest in more sober and basic products, or in vibrant colors, bold patterns and textured coatings.

4. Rustic and handmade textures

Corroborating the trend for natural materials and neutral tones, Cersaie 2024 also brought textures reminiscent of elements found in nature. These include wood and stone, in rustic surfaces with a handmade feel. The great advantage is the comfortable touch, which provides well-being in the environment.

This even led to the predominance of opaque surfaces. Although gloss is still present, matte finishes, such as natural, came to the fore at Cersaie 2024.

These finishes are possible thanks to advances in industrial processes. At Portobello, for example, Super Touch technology is able to give a texture that accompanies the design of the tiles. This makes the surfaces even more realistic and comfortable.

5. Porcelain tiles beyond floors and walls

The coating can also be used on furniture such as tables and shelves (Photo: Portobello).

The evolution of technology has also led to new possibilities for using porcelain tiles. And this was seen during Cersaie 2024, which brought a broader view of this material, which is now being consolidated as a material for creating furniture and objects, for example.

One of the points where innovation contributes to this trend is colored bodies. With color body porcelain tiles, cuts can be made to create surfaces such as tables and countertops, maintaining a refined finish even when cuts are necessary.

This feature is even interesting for the use of small formats, such as in the creation of mosaics.

Cersaie 2024 reaffirmed its role as a global benchmark for design and architecture trends, offering a comprehensive overview of the innovations that will mark the coming years. Sustainability, technology and bold aesthetics were the main protagonists. Architects and designers who attended the event will certainly return home with a host of new ideas and inspirations. The fair also reinforced the importance of innovation, which is in Portobello's DNA.

It was with this in mind that it launched its first global collection, called Bossa On The Road.

In addition to the launch at Cersaie 2024, the arrival of the collection also involves the Portobello Shop, which are the brand's stores throughout Brazil. In addition, at Portobello Américas, customers were welcomed for a preview.

Therefore, a global launch, with activations at different points to reinforce the brand's positioning.

Specifically at Cersaie 2024, it was the opportunity to present the collection to customers from all over the world, including people from the Americas, Asia and Europe.

Collection is the result of research, creativity, innovation and technology

This is a special collection, with original lines that required in-depth research. One example is the cement, which was inspired by Brutalist architecture in Brazil. Thanks to dedication and technology, it was possible to achieve a very authentic result that shows all the intensity of the material.

Another inspiration for the products was our largest forest: the Amazon. With access to various species of wood, it was possible to create Amazonia, a woody porcelain tile with a balanced surface.

It thus brings unique relief to each piece, just as it does when using natural materials. Each vein and knot of the wood has its own reference on the surface of the cladding, bringing a surprising texture.

Personalization solutions also attract attention. After all, corroborating the trends of Cersaie 2024, Portobello brings solutions in mosaics, small formats, "infinite walls", among other proposals for an integrated portfolio, connecting all the lines.

In this way, it is possible to oxygenate the professionals' options for their projects. In addition to contributing to a home-from-home that generates identification and makes the professionals' work even more meaningful.

After all, the raw materials for professionals' creativity are increasing in quality. It is therefore important for professionals to know about the different possibilities. So, how about delving deeper by discovering the types of porcelain tiles?
