April 2024

With the aim of expanding Brazilian exports of ceramic tiles, Exporta Mais Brasil, a program run by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), brought 33 international buyers from more than 20 countries such as the USA, Mexico and South Africa face to face with 33 domestic companies in the sector, offering the best of Brazilian ceramic production. The results of the round, which took place from April 19 to 24 at Expo Revestir - the largest tiles and finishes fair in Latin America - reflect the great success of the initiative. Over the course of four days, 703 business meetings were held.

The estimate for the first Exporta Mais of the year, anchored at Expo Revestir, is that business will be generated in the region of just over R$82 million (US$16.325 million) for the national industry over the next 12 months. The action was carried out by ApexBrasil with Anfacer (National Association of Manufacturers of Ceramics for Tiles, Sanitary Ware and Congeners) and is part of the calendar of initiatives of the Ceramics of Brazil sector project, the result of the same partnership.

Business round

"With the support of Apex Brasil, we had the opportunity to showcase our product in a unique way," enthuses Roberta Tabai, Foreign Market Sales Supervisor at LEF Cerâmica, a company from the city of Piracicaba, in the interior of São Paulo, which has been operating for 30 years and exporting for 20 years - which already accounts for up to 15% of the company's monthly turnover. The company went all out: it set up a stand decorated with home-grown products. "We have opportunities to open up new customers and strengthen ties with existing ones. Not to mention that the fair is always a time to present new products. What matters to new and old customers!" he explains. The company, which makes regular, rectified and polished ceramic tiles and wooden rulers, as well as polished and satin-finished rectified porcelain tiles, has registered new interested parties and has already placed orders.

Another participant was Pointer Revestimentos Cerâmicos. "We closed some deals and opened up opportunities for future business," says Ronaldo Raizer, Export Manager for the company, which is part of the Portobelo group, based in a multi-fabric industrial hub in Alagoas, with ten years on the market, specializing in ceramics for floors or walls, for external or internal areas. The company has always exported and today reaches more than 40 countries on 5 continents.

Brazilian ceramics on the rise

The Brazilian ceramic tile industry is a major player on the world market, ranking third in production and consumption. It is also the sixth largest exporter in the world, with sales to more than 110 countries on all continents.

Last year Brazil produced 792.9 million square meters and earned US$392 million from exports, with the USA as its main destination.

Export More Brazil

ApexBrasil has created the Exporta Mais Brasil Program, which aims to connect foreign trade with entrepreneurs throughout the country. Exporta Mais Brasil seeks to actively reach out to all regions of the country in order to boost their exports. Through the Program, companies from different productive sectors hold meetings with international buyers, who come to Brazil in search of products and services linked to specific sectors.

This was the first round of the program this year. The second was in São Luís - MA, dedicated to the leather and tanning sector, and the next will be in Maceió -AL, from April 10 to 13, with a focus on healthy food and drink. By the end of the year, there will be at least 14 rounds dedicated to different sectors and in different states of the country.
