Portobello America, the business unit of the Portobello Group - a company recognized globally for its design and innovation in the tiles sector - began production on July 21 at its plant in Baxter, Tennessee/USA.
Seeking to capture value in the growing and attractive North American market and diversify its business, Portobello Grupo has built its first unit outside Brazil. "The ceramics market in the United States is one of the largest and most attractive in the world and is fundamental to our international expansion strategy.
This is a landmark moment in the history of the Group which, since 1991, has only had distribution operations in North America. With Portobello America, we now have three production units: two in Brazil and one abroad," said Cesar Gomes Junior, Chairman of the Portobello Group.
According to the CEO of the Portobello America Unit, Luiz Felipe Brito, the new plant will allow us to supply more innovative products with more design, with a better level of service and in a very competitive way, always in line with the profile of the country's consumer.
John Suzuki, CEO of the Portobello Group, estimates that the plant should generate additional annual revenue of around R$750 million for the Group, as well as strengthening it as a global company.
Portobello America has already generated more than 200 local jobs and will be one of the Group's growth levers. The state-of-the-art plant, with the latest technology processes and machinery, has 90,000 square meters of built area, located on a 370,000 square meter site in Tennessee, which is considered a national hub for the manufacture of ceramic tiles. The new plant has an annual production capacity of 3.6 million square meters in this first stage.
Headquartered in Tijucas, Santa Catarina, Portobello Grupo is today Brazil's largest flooring company, with the largest retail network in the segment in the country. The company is the national leader and a global player in the sector. It is listed on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3) under the ticker PTBL3. The group has multichannel operations, structured around four Business Units - Portobello, with distribution to Homecenters, Projects and Exports to more than 70 countries, Portobello Shop, its retail brand with more than 130 stores throughout Brazil, Portobello America, a pioneer in the Group's internationalization with headquarters in the United States, and Pointer, a democratic design brand consolidated in the Northeast of the country. With an increasingly sustainable production process that respects the environment and the use of natural resources, Portobello serves countries on five continents, connecting with clients and architectural professionals all over the world.
