The MECS-Acimac Research Center recently published the report Ceramic Tile Market Forecast Analysis: TRENDS 2024-2028 (Ceramic Tile Market Forecast Analysis: TRENDS 2024-2028). In its fourth edition, the document analyzes trends in the production and consumption of ceramic tiles from 2024 to 2028, presenting tables with classifications of 90 producing countries and 146 consumers, as well as other relevant information about the global market.
According to the report, production and demand for ceramic tiles should gradually recover over the next five years, with projected annual growth of +2.2% and +2.5% respectively.
Check out some of the relevant topics covered in the report.
After 2023 marked a 5% drop in consumption and a 5.5% drop in production (which represents a loss of 1 billion square meters compared to 2022 and almost 3 billion square meters less than in 2021), the MECS predicts a gradual recovery over the next five years. However, this upturn will not be enough to return to the record levels seen in 2021.
Global production of ceramic tiles is expected to grow at an average annual rate of +2.2%, rising from 15.9 billion square meters in 2023 to over 17.8 billion square meters in 2028.
The main regions that will drive this recovery will be Africa, the Middle East, European countries outside the European Union and the Americas - all with above-average growth expectations.
Over the next five years, world consumption of ceramic tiles is expected to grow by just over 2 billion square meters, an encouraging recovery compared to the last three years, although still below the accelerated growth of previous periods.
Global demand is expected to rise from 15.6 billion square meters in 2023 to 17.7 billion square meters in 2028, with an average annual growth rate of +2.5%. Africa is expected to lead growth, with an annual increase of +6%, followed by South America (+4.8%) and European countries outside the European Union (+3%).
In contrast, demand in the other regions is expected to grow at a slower pace. The European Union, Asia and the Middle East are expected to register annual growth rates of between +1.6% and +1.8%, indicating less dynamic market conditions.
Although Africa and South America are expected to be the main regions in terms of market growth, the main players in the global ceramics industry are unlikely to change significantly. However, the MECS report highlights the emergence of dynamic new markets, especially in Africa and Asia. Countries such as Bangladesh, Kenya and Kazakhstan are rapidly expanding their production, with double-digit annual growth projected until 2028. On the consumption side, these nations, along with Cameroon and Uganda, are also expected to show demand growth well above global averages.
