Called Bel Air in reference to the high-end neighborhood where it is located in Los Angeles, California, this 1,800 square meter mansion was conceived as a luxurious retreat (it is currently one of the most expensive on the local market). It has internal spaces that merge with the exterior through large glass openings, allowing for visual and spatial permeability, as well as abundant natural light and ventilation. The façade facing the street, however, is more monolithic and better preserved. It is a concept that integrates architecture, design and the natural landscape.
The architectural project developed by local firm Tag Front Architects features an organic modernist aesthetic, with sculptural and geometric shapes, high ceilings and adjacent outdoor patios that expand spatiality and flow. The spaces are fluid and have been given natural and sophisticated coverings and finishes, such as Portuguese limestone and Calcutta marble.
A floating fireplace divides the living areas on the first floor. There is also a large American kitchen and a bar. On the second floor, there is a living room, nine bedrooms with balconies and 13 bathrooms. The basement houses a 20-seat cinema, a spa (Turkish bath, sauna, jacuzzi, etc.), a gym and an industrial kitchen.
Gardens and outdoor spaces on the 5,500 square meter site provide a series of attractions for the entertainment and leisure of residents and visitors, as if it were a kind of private resort. A highlight of the proposal is the 75-meter curved infinity pool, which offers generous views of the natural surroundings and the city. It was designed with a bar, water fountains and a sunbathing area. The cladding used is part of the Gioia range by Brazilian brand Vidro Real, which customized the product's color palette exclusively for the mansion, later adding it to its portfolio under the name Gioia Bel Air.
In addition to its sculptural design, the pool draws attention due to the choice of cladding: glass mosaics that allow light to be captured and refracted throughout the day. The architects' idea was to create a composition that would generate a spectacle of color and depth as the hours progressed.
The shades range from crystalline blue to sunset gold. During the day, the water shimmers like a liquid mirror, amplifying the infinity effect of the pool. At dusk, the surface takes on golden and silver tones, "dancing" with the reflections of natural light. The lighting project was designed to further enhance the depth and brilliance of the mosaic at night. In this way, the pool, which follows the curved shape of the terrain, becomes a kind of work of art and a central part of the architectural experience.
